Is the FreePrints app legit? I am so glad you asked.
Remember when you used to take photos on film cameras — disposable or otherwise? Getting the prints of your photos back from being developed was actually kinda fun. But there are reasons you don’t do it anymore: It wasn’t cheap, it took time out of your busy day and now you have a smartphone that takes way better photos.
Now that we’re on the same page, I’d like to introduce you to FreePrints. It’s an app that makes it easy to print the photos you took with your smartphone. And, yes, it’s legit.
FreePrints lets you bridge the days of old, when you’d get a roll of film developed, to current times, when you shoot pretty much every important or fun memory with the closest camera — your phone.
How does it work?
Download the FreePrints app onto your device, Android or iOS. Then, pick out your pictures. If you want sizes other than 4×6 or duplicates that’ll cost a bit extra. The shipping cost is on you. Though, there are special deals every so often for free shipping, photo books and things like that.
Other sizes include 5×5, 5×7, 8×10, 11×14, 12×18, 16×20 and 20×30.
My experience
The first time I tried out FreePrints was very recent. I selected only 10 photos to print in 4×6 (no duplicates). Why so few? There was an offer to have shipping waived for the first batch of 10 photos. It was truly a “no risk” way to try out the app because FreePrints didn’t require a credit card.
I got my prints the other day. The packet of photos actually arrived one day after the estimated delivery date. But no photos were missing, and the quality of the prints was much better than any home printer I’d ever used.
Tips and other things to note
- Photos with a good source of light will print better than ones taken in darker settings.
- Your phone likely takes photos at a size that’s larger than 4×6. Don’t worry, as long as the subjects in your photo are centered, the FreePrints photo will turn out fine. Additionally, FreePrints doesn’t appear to stretch the image to fit a 4×6 size. Instead, your photo will be cropped to fit 4×6.
- If a yellow triangle with an exclamation point appears on a photo you selected to print, the photo will not print well because it’s too small. Un-cropped, original or high-resolution images will print best. Though, anything shot with a modern smartphone should be fine.
- Shipping costs start at $1.99, and FreePrints says it will never cost more than $9.99.
- You only get 85 free individual 4×6 photos each month (up to 1000 4×6 prints per year). Although, you can earn bonus prints by inviting others to use FreePrints.
Update Oct. 6, 2020: The app is still legit. Recently I used FreePrints to print some photos of loved ones I’m missing while social distancing during the Coronavirus pandemic. I paid a little extra for the batch to get some duplicates ($3.56 total for 19 prints). The app has had a few improvements since this review (it’s much easier to crop and make sure your photos will fit the print size). The shipment was late by a few days, though, that may be due to USPS handling shipping. The quality of the prints was just as good as the first time I ordered from the FreePrints app.
Thanks for the tip. Too many great shots never are seen other than on a scroll.
How do u pay. ?
i really like this app becouse it the photots dont cost
How do you erase the pictures of the free print when you ordered it sab
thanks for sharing very helpful post.
I got an email from the app asking for permission to have access to my email. Is this dangerous? Why do they need access to my email to print my photos, and I’ve already paid and had my money withdrawn from my bank account.
As far as I can tell there are only two ways the app would require access to your email: The first is if you’re using a Google account to log in to the app (the “Connect with Google” options on the login page). The second is if you enable Google as a “Photo Source” in the settings. If you haven’t done either of those things, I don’t believe the app should require that access.
not dangerous, its for order confirmation
Very Bad, Fraud Company, Doesnt deliver my product after even 45 days. No response from Customer Service, not even a chat option.
I have invested a lot of money into purchasing photos from Free Prints, and until recently I was very pleased with my photos. However, lately the QUALITy of my photos seems to be diminishing. My last Photo Book I threw away. Today’s order was a large Order, and again some photos cannot be used because the heading is missing or partially missing, as is the wording at the bottom This holds up my Project that I am working on☹️
How do the prints ship? Is is regular USPS?
I still don’t understand why they need access to your phone, your giving them the pictures like any other on line that I have used. I have used free prints but at this time don’t trust that they need. The access they require.
Free prints sent my pictures to someone else and they will not take responsibility for packing them wrong, I send pictures a loved one in prison and they send him someone’s pictures, very upset about the whole situation, mainly because I don’t know who has my pictures
