Root root riot…Rooting your android

In a post last week I briefly mentioned rooting an android device in order to avoid the Carrier IQ software, first though I’d like to address some new information on the issue– NEW DETAILS ON CARRIER IQ:

-Information gathered is listed within agreements with the carriers and/or manufacturers before the phone is shipped to stores near you.

-Information on location of whereabouts when signals drop, signal fails, key presses, or the device experiences layer 3 traffic.

-Layer 3 traffic is only kept because of a bug in the software. This layering happens when the device is in the middle of a call and a text message is received. This is accidental.

-All data collected has no unique identifier to tie it back to the original user of a particular device.

-Under the contracts signed when Carrier IQ is used data privacy is kept in mind. This means Carrier IQ cannot sell, analyze, or reuse any data collected.

That being said– ROOTING.

Rooting your phone can be dangerous. Possible issues include voiding the warranty of your device, frying the software of your phone, and intense headaches.

But if you’re still wanting to try it out go to this site: AddictiveTips

I will not be including a guide on my site because of the warranty issues behind rooting. Also, every Android device is rooted differently…this takes a lot of time to test and write out each method of rooting.

Good luck!
