HTML5 defeats Flash in mobile market

Adobe announced that it will be discontinuing it’s Flash Plug-in for mobile devices– the reason why? HTML is boss, or something like that.

Wired.com reported today that Adobe VP Danny Winokur, admitted to HTML5’s take over of the mobile sphere. “HTML5 is now universally supported on major mobile devices, in some cases exclusively.” So, in a way Steve Jobs predicted this outcome…Winokur’s statement leads me to believe that it was more a self-fulfilled prophecy on Jobs’ part.

Either way, this news is big for developers and businesses.

According to Adobe’s statistics:

-98% of enterprises rely on Flash Player

-75% of web video is viewed using Flash Player

-70% of web games are made in Flash

Businesses and developers will still find the use of Flash for desktop web browsers useful, but it seems a lot of internet traffic is going onto tablets, mobile phones, and soon to be produced mobile devices. It will be interesting to see how the progression of the internet will follow the bending of this on-line giant.

One thing is certain for this young website developer– I’m practicing my HTML5 coding tonight.
