Ubunt-who?

For those of you who think Mac and Windows are the only operating systems, let’s talk about Ubuntu. Ubuntu is what is known as a free and open source OS and it’s based off the Linux kernel (or concept). This means that if you want to try it out you don’t have to pay for it! (YAY!) Ubuntu isn’t the only free OS out there, but it’s one of the easier ones to use.

Originally released in October of 2004, there have been a total of 15 different versions. The best part for computer owners who use Ubuntu is that with Ubuntu you don’t have to worry about viruses.

Ubuntu offers thousands of free applications and for people worried about compatibility, stop worrying. All your .doc, .xcl, .ppt files will work in the free Ubuntu version of office called LibreOffice.

In April of 2012 there will be a new version of Ubuntu available for free download, look for the review of Ubuntu Version 12.04 then.
